Description

Mithqal Parfum Extrait has been built upon the base of a traditional Ghaliya. Precious oud oils from Vietnam, Sumatra, Burma, and Malaysia each bring their own mystery, their own memory of the earth. Together, they form an archive of Mithqāl, the kind of rarity people once weighed and valued in mithqāls.

Upon spraying, the fragrance opens with a musky, oudy, floral character, lifted by a breathing coolness from Siberian musk, like something alive beneath layers of resinous ouds. Then the roses begin to bloom- rich, bruised, and edged with fruity notes surrounded by phenomenal musks, as if they had been gently crushed in the hands rather than distilled.

Every ingredient in Mithqal has, at some point in history, been weighed on a Mithqal’s scale and traded like treasure. They have finally come back together.

But what is a Mithqal?

The Mithqal isn’t just an ancient unit of measure,   it is the language of value itself. For centuries across the Islamic world and along the legendary medieval spice and silk routes, merchants weighed precious things in mithqals.  Gold, silver, amber, musk, and rare resins. One Mithqal is about 4.25 grams, and it also formed the standard weight of many historic Gold dinars and Mithqal coins, giving the term a deep connection to wealth and trade.
